Born in Glasgow in 1966 Ross Sinclair has, over the past twenty years, been creating site specific works in a broad range of media. Through his work Sinclair questions notions of reality and the nature of popular culture while addressing issues of identity in a direct and often humorous way. This work is part of Sinclair’s ongoing long-term project Real Life which questions and underlines the nature of human experiences. By exploring personal and cultural identities he discerns and attempts to strip away perceived, experienced and idealistic structures in order to reveal a basic truth or understanding of the individual and their place in society. ‘I love real life’ has become a potent and empowering statement in Sinclair’s work and has appeared in many different forms; including a tattoo across the artist’s back. I love real life is made from neon which emphasises this uplifting and life-affirming assertion.
