Born in Bristol in 1957 Garry Fabian Miller has worked with camera-less photography techniques since the mid 1980s after establishing a reputation as a landscape photographer. Without the use of camera or film his photographs respond directly to light which is filtered onto photographic paper through glass and oil filled vessels. This method of working references the earliest photographic experiments undertaken in the early 19th century. The Solar Eclipse series is a major body of work bringing together Millerís concern with the representation of natural phenomenon and his interest in the manifestation of celestial activity. Although his work is essentially abstract in nature, elemental and natural forms such as the circle, horizon-line and stellar constellations are clearly defined.
