Green Wall Object 2005

Michael Geertsen (born 1966, Denmark)

Michael Geertsen has had his own studio since 1993, and has during the last ten years worked as a freelance designer for several companies, among others, Kähler and IKEA of Sweden. In 1999 Michael Geertsen received a three-year grant from The Danish Art Foundation. Since then he has exhibited at The Garth Clark Gallery in New York, Clara Scremini Gallery in Paris and at the Tate in Liverpool. He is an established potter with work in public collections in New York and London (the V&A). Green Wall Object is composed as carefully as any still-life composition - except that Geertsen has hand thrown all the vessel and plate shapes himself before collaging them into this elegant arrangement. He uses spray-on commercial glazes; in this case the sombre green is offset by an underlying red colouring
