Camilla LÝw was born in Oslo in Norway in 1976 and studied at Glasgow School of Art. Her work responds to ideas surrounding the objectís place in art in an inquisitive way. She questions the territory between painting and sculpture by exploring the properties of an objectís surface, shape, colour and material. 4 + 4 is painted in bright colours with a high gloss finish and is made from two modular sections. This duality of construction enables 4 + 4 to be exhibited in a variety of different ways; creating a dialogue around the definition of form in space and revealing LÝwís preoccupation with colour, material and surface. Formal references to Russian Constructivism, British Modernism and Pop Art are contained in her work. These respond to the Centreís sculptures by Naum Gabo and Barbara Hepworth; and works by Ben Nicholson and Eduardo Paolozzi.
